Republic of Zaqistan

Near Kelton, Utah

General Overview

Tekoi Test Range is a very cool abandoned military base located near Dugway, Utah and Skull Valley. It operated up until the late 80's to the early 90's before it was abandoned. It seemed that people just up and left one day and never returned.

It was not a very well known destination until CGP Grey uploaded a video of him exploring the place, which you can watch here. I would say it's worth watching before you go. That is how I first heard of it too. When I went, I ran into a pair of people who also had heard about Tekoi from the same video.

There are tons of computers and electronics from the 90's all over the place. At the location, there are 4 main spots which I have detailed below.

Guard Shack

This is the first thing that you will see and it is located right by the main gate off of the highway. The gate will probably be locked. If you can pick it, you could save yourself the 1 mile walk from the guard shack to the main area. It's worth popping your head in here for a few minutes. It's also interesting to note that the sign next to the guard shack is in Russian.

Main Area

There's lots of buildings and warehouses in this part, but the coolest places are the office building and the bunker, which is located right behind it.

General Main Area: 40.369243, -112.768166

Office Building: 40.369391, -112.768588

Upper Area

A 5-10 minute walk up the same main road into the base (west) leads into the upper area. There are 2 bunkers here, a large building that appears to be on rails, and many other little things scattered throughout. These bunkers are extremely interesting.

North Area

When you are walking around, this area looks to be kind of far away and not part of the test range, but it is. It is about a 15 minute walk from the main area. It has 2 bunkers, a large structure in the middle with a secondary structure inside, and many camera buildings.

North Area Main Building: 40.376548, -112.769299

Bunker 1 (under main building): 40.376505, -112.769683

Bunker 2: 40.376509, -112.768382

Other Things To Note

It is located on the same road as Iosepa, which I would also recommend seeing at the same time because they are so close to each other.

I have been told through a friend of a friend that occasionally some sort of law enforcement comes to patrol Tekoi, but I do not know this for certain. There was no law enforcement when I went, and a friend of mine went a couple days later and told me that they didn't see any law enforcement while they were there either.

If you can tell me why there is occasional Russian script on signs, I'd love to know.

Final Thoughts

If you do go, put your name down in the Visitors Register! It's located on the desk in the guard shack. This place is totally worth the drive out. You can spend anywhere from 1-3 hours here. I spend nearly 3 hours because I explored every nook and cranny of the test range. Bring water and flashlights.
